Bev's Marans

White

Genetic code =   eWh/eWh   c/c  w+/w+  Id/Id   Pti1-L/Pti1-L

The white line came from a flock of Marans that were bred in Michigan.  A trio was sent to me and I started breeding them.  The bird was small and the egg was terrible.

At first I crossed them with the cuckoo and got males that had a sort of ghost barring to them.  After a while I bred them to black coppers because the egg color was much better.

Recently I was kindly given a white sport male from a black copper and am presently breeding him to my other white line in the hope of increasing the egg color.  I have found that the birds with light colored feathering produce eggs that aren't as dark as those with a darker feather.  At present there is no known genetic reason for this.

I'll continue breeding this line until I get a darker egg than the number four being laid at the moment.
